We started our big book talk today. The first part is to look at only the pictures and make predictions about the book. We are off to a great start.

In our last session, we watched some music videos from "The Lorax". Then, we talked about the videos and what had happened in the book. Next, we drew pictures about making better decisions to help our environment.

For the third activity, we sorted items into plastic, aluminum, and paper containers to show how we should be good recyclers. Then, we read a story and sang a few songs.

In the next room, we talked about pollution. First, we read a book about an amazing fish. Then, we talked about keeping our water clean by not throwing trash on the ground. We then took some paper and balled it up and covered it with foil. The balls of paper represented hills and the aluminum foil represented the grass. We drew our backyard and the items in our yards all over the grass with our markers. Next, the teachers poured "litter" all over our yards. Then, when the rain came down, we saw how the trash spread out everywhere and polluted our water and our ground.

Dr. Minear's class came to do activities with us today. During the first activity, we watched a short music video about choosing healthy foods, like fruits and vegetables. Then, we read a book about nutrition. After we read the book, we played a game to decide which foods are good for us and which foods are not so good for us. We ate a very nutritious snack of grapes, carrots, and celery with a little bit of Ranch dressing on the side.
